Pentaport Preview
April 15, 2008 – 4:33 pmWe were supposed to know the lineup for this year’s PENTAPORT by now, but organizers say they are having “problems with the website” (whatever that means), which is delaying things. In the meantime, I came across this poster recently:
Not sure if the poster is a fake or a preliminary or what. COLDPLAY’s website say they are playing in British Columbia on July 27, so I assume they will not be playing at Pentaport. METALLICA plays in Turkey on July 27, so they will not be coming here. THE FEELING has a show in England on July 25.
Nothing announced for RADIOHEAD and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE over the Pentaport period, so it is possible they could be playing here. MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE has not listed their summer tour dates on their website yet. Nothing at FALL OUT BOY’s website, either.
UNDERWORLD, on the other hand, do have Pentaport on their Myspace page.
Not on the poster, but GO TEAM’s website says they will be playing at Pentaport. Which is huge for me — I love the GO TEAM. Very, very exciting.
Hrm… A quick Google search turned up Iceberg’s website. Where he claims that FEEDER and PRINCESS SUPERSTAR are also signed on.
That’s all I know for now. Will update as soon as I hear from the concert organizers.

do keep us updated. the line-ups are going to help me decide whether i want to go to fuji rock, summer sonic or pentaport. i’ve got two other queries that i hope you can help me with:
1. what’s the festival feel like? is it like fuji where artists tend to walk around with the crowd and check out other stages as well or are they going to be just schmoozing with the rest backstage?
2. how difficult is it for a foreigner to purchase tickets for the festival? is there an existing/recommended resource on this available?
thanks man.

1. Feel? Well, this is just the third Pentaport, so I think it is still evolving its vibe. Local artists tend to walk around in the crowd. I seem to recall the Japanese artists doing the same. Big Western acts were more removed, depending on the act.
But the first Pentaport had some really tough weather. Last year was the only time they have had great weather and a real festival vibe. I think if they get decent weather again this year it will go a long way toward establishing the event in people’s consciousness.
2. I believe it is quite easy to buy tickets. Being a journalist, I am embarrassed to say that I have not needed to buy Pentaport tickets myself. But none of my foreign friends have complained about the process (that I recall).

lol tbh it wasn’t GREAT weather, cos it rained for a while…but it sure was great festival atmosphere, and definitely will be going again!
Btw, aren’t fuji rock and pentaport sharing their artists? Like the Go! Team’s playing in both and so are a few other acts.
I think I heard somewhere that the Cribs might be playing, which I’m not really fussed about, cos I’ll be seeing them for the third time then :/
I wouldn’t say that it’ll be too hard for foreigners to get tickets, since most Korean sites have an English counterpart anyway. If it proves too hard, I’m sure there must be a kind, Korean-proficient friend about you somewhere lol
Are you guys all living in Korea atm? We should all meet up at Pentaport lol
