A Big Ol’ Rock ‘N’ Roll Party!
June 17, 2010 – 3:30 pmBy Shawn Despres
Despite news stories circulating last week about their possible break up, The King Khan & BBQ Show are still together and their concerts scheduled for this week in South Korea are 100% happening. The duo of Canadians King Khan and Mark “BBQ” Sultan arrived in the country early this morning and are excited for their gigs in Daegu, Busan, and Seoul.

The rumours of them parting ways arose after a group fight during their Australian tour. You can read full details about the Sydney incident here if you’re interested. In an e-mail interview with Korea Gig Guide, Sultan sums it up by simply saying it was a mix of “decadence, debauchery, bullshit, and nonsense.”
While the two have patched things up, this may be your last chance to experience them as their current incarnation.
“The band is now in a transformational stage,” shares Sultan. “It is safe to say the name ‘The King Khan & BBQ Show’ does not exist anymore.
Since debuting with their 2004 eponymous effort, the act have been highly praised around the globe for their wildly entertaining hybrid of doo wop, punk, soul, and garage rock. Their raucous live sets are near legendary with all kinds of wild and wacky antics going down on the stage and in the audience.
“Expect man tits, Satanic Buddhism, and Coffee Crisp,” says Sultan. “The gigs are going to be fun. Unless you are trust-fund ‘punks’ with tribal tattoos – then you can expect focused hatred from us. Beautiful women should say ‘hi’ to us at the shows.”
Currently touring in support of 2009’s “Invisible Girl,” (glowing Spin review here) the guys will be playing cuts from the album and older favourites too.
“We very rarely make set lists,” Sultan says. “If people know the songs and call them out, we will play them if we can remember them!”
I have little doubt that The King Khan & BBQ Show concerts are going to be a blast. Full details about all the shows are below. Daegu and Seoul will have BBQs going on in front of the club, so don’t be afraid to head down a bit early if you want some flame-grilled grub.
