Lymbyc Systym: A Much Easier Act For SuperColorSuper

Apologies while we continue to work on getting the calendar back up and running. We are hopeful that everything will return to business as usual on Korea Gig Guide very soon.
Two weekend events worth highlighting are Lymbyc Systym’s Seoul concerts at Rolling Hall tonight (June 26) and Live Club Ssam (Ssamzie Space) tomorrow (June 27).
The very cool New York post-rock duo of brothers Mike and Jared Bell are currently in the midst of a seven-country Asian tour. Local promoter SuperColorSuper are responsible for arranging their South Korean stop (which also included Daegu and Busan shows on Thursday and Friday). After all the headaches caused by The King Khan & BBQ Show breaking up in South Korea last week, Lymbyc Systym should be a much less stressful affair for the company.
Lymbyc Systym are performing only one or twice in the other countries they are visiting and are quite grateful that SCS could arrange four Korean concerts for them.
“Supercolorsuper was kind enough to book this tour,” says Mike Bell. “I’m very thankful to them and all their crew for their hard work and effort.”
The act are currently supporting last year’s “Shutter Release.” Issued in November, the album is filled with gorgeous, lush soundscapes. Bell feels their second full-length is a natural progression for Lymbyc Systym.
“We wrote and recorded ‘Shutter Release’ over the course of a two-and-a-half year period in studios, at home, and via the internet,” Mike shares. “Our music is constantly evolving, so it is always building on previous work and influences while allowing for room to grow and develop.”
Here’s the music video for the awesome “Ghost Clock” from “Shutter Release.”
The brothers Bell use a combination of sequencing and live instrumentation to recreate their songs on concert stages.
“When performing we use a Nord Electro keyboard, a clavinet, a small synth, drum kit, laptop sampler and glockenspiel,” Mike says. “People can expect a very dreamy and inspiring show. Our music isn’t that easy to dance to but it is quite easy to get lost in. It is music for those with an open mind and an open heart.”
Lymbyc Systym will be at Rolling Hall tonight. The show will start at 10:30 p.m., but the band will be on after the World Cup game making it very possible to root for South Korea and still watch Lymbyc Systym. Kohji Isle (10:45 – 11:30), Vidulgi Ooyoo (11:30 – 12:15), and Frenzy (12:30 – 1:30) will open. Sunday’s show at Ssamzie Space will begin at 6 p.m. Huckleberry Finn, Hanumpa, and, The Pony are also on the bill. Both concerts cost 25,000 won at the door.
