Okie Dokie … Ska Ska Ska Rulez 9

There are a heap of great gigs this weekend, including the SCS show (mentioned below), hip hop and b-boy dancing at Jamsil, punk at Spot, hardcore at Ssamzie, a Koxx (and friends) release at FF, and a Burning Hepburn release (with many friends) at Rolling Hall. But the place for Ska is DGDB. Yes, they host the latest in the awesome series of Ska Nights on Saturday, with Ska Rules Vol. 9!
The lineup features the crème de la crème of Korea’s ska and ska-punk acts. Re:Ska are one of the more humble ska-style bands around, have a new EP out shortly, and bring a very laidback vibe to these nights.
Tobacco Juice have really developed over the last year and seem to have more confidence as a live outfit. With their own take on the ska-punk sound, Tobacco Juice have just released their second album and are steadily developing a strong fan base, ready and willing to yell out “Jong Mahl” at the correct time. Here is their great video for “Zombies Attack”, directed by their drummer, Seung Hwa.
No. 1 Korean have been working up a storm with their live gigs lately, including an awesome set at the Time to Rock Festival where “Rosa” resulted in a riotous pit of chaos. With their charisma, high levels of energy and great tunes, they are a fantastic live band.
Copy Machine have had a huge time of it lately, seeming to be everywhere during the World Cup. They seem reinvigorated after a bit of a break, and with their new song “Rodeo” out, this experienced outfit knows how to move the crowd.
Kingston Rudieska are Korea’s premier authentic ska band, and have also just released their second album. Having settled into a groove after a few member changes last year, Kingston remain one of the busiest bands around. They are fresh off their album release gig, and a great set at last week’s Michael Jackson tribute night. Although they rock any venue, DGDB is one place where they always tear it up.
So, you are DEF being spoilt for choice, but if Ska, Ska, Ska is your flavor, this Saturday head to DGDB, 6pm for just 15,000 won.
