Five Questions with Johnny Sands

Zandari Festa 2015 will take place in Hongdae from October 2 – 4.  In order to spotlight some of the talent performing at this year’s event, Korea Gig Guide and our friends at Do Indie are teaming up to ask a bunch of acts five simple questions.

Johnny Sands

For the final installment of the interview series, we’re talking to the vocalist and namesake of the Liverpool-based act Johnny Sands. Including Joe Rhead on keyboard and bass, Johnny Sands delivers catchy soundscapes punctuated by vocals that flow and ebb. Now let’s get to Sands’ answers!

1) Why are you excited to be performing at Zandari Festa 2015?

It’s really exciting to travel so far to play my music to a new audience. It’s my first time in Korea and I can’t wait to sample the culture. I’m especially looking forward to exploring the Hongdae area over the festival weekend!

2) What can people expect from a Johnny Sands live show?

The live show will be atmospheric, heartfelt, and spontaneous. There will be drum machines and guitars and above all a captivating performance.

3) For fest-goers not familiar with Johnny Sands yet, what should they know about you?

They should know Johnny loves performing to a new audience in a new outfit in a new country with a new drum machine!

4) Aside from performing, what else would you like to do during Zandari Festa 2015?

When I’m not performing at Zandari Festa you’ll find me drinking coffee and playing chess in a local cafe, followed by watching every other band possible!

5) It’s important to stay hydrated at music festivals. What’s your festival drink of choice?

Drink of choice: coffee & water – and a morning grapefruit juice!

Johnny Sands will perform on Saturday, October 3 at West Bridge Rooftop at 9 pm. For more information about Johnny Sands, check out his Facebook page here.  To learn more about ZandariFesta 2015, you can check out the festival’s website here and its Facebook page here.

Zandari Festa 2015 – Five Questions with Uhnellys

Zandari Festa 2015 will take place in Hongdae from October 2 – 4.  In order to spotlight some of the talent performing at this year’s event, Korea Gig Guide and our friends at Do Indie are teaming up to ask a bunch of acts five simple questions.

Uhnellys Pic

For this installment, we’re talking with Kim from Uhnellys.  Uhnellys are a Tokyo duo whose music mixes hip-hop, post-punk, funk, jazz, and soul all into an awesome musical concoction.  Using looping pedals, Kim plays guitar, trumpet, and raps and sings — often all in the same song!  If there’s one band I’d recommend not missing at Zandari Festa 2015, it’s Uhnellys!  Now let’s get to Kim’s answers!

1) Why are you excited to be performing at Zandari Festa 2015?

This will be our first time performing in Korea. We’ve played in more than 10 countries around the world and had many great experiences in every place. I think we’re going to have an amazing time in Seoul too!

2) What can people expect from an Uhnellys live show?

They can expect to watch a real-time sampling performance. And they can expect to have a lot of fun as well.

3) For fest-goers not familiar with Uhnellys yet, what should they know about you?

Uhnellys’ music sounds like it is made by many people, but there are just two of us – me and Midi! We’ve released several albums and have shared our music in different countries around the world and throughout Japan. And we have played at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival twice before.

4) Aside from performing, what else would you like to do during Zandari Festa 2015?

I want to find great music by Korean acts. I’m really interested by the Korean language and how different words are pronounced.

5) It’s important to stay hydrated at music festivals. What’s your festival drink of choice?

I like Chamisul soju!

Uhnellys will play in Hongdae on Saturday, October 3 at the Wowbook & Zandari Outdoor Stage at 3:20 pm and on Sunday, October 4 at Amp Live Club at 5 pm.
